Thoughts

It’s unusual to see an Amex Hyatt offer targeted solely to Business Cards but that seems to be what we have here right now.

I’ve had the offer targeted to card_name (2 Membership Rewards Points/dollar on all eligible spending up to a cap of $50,000 in a single year & 1 point/$ thereafter – terms apply) which I’m reasonably happy with, but holders of the card_name (3 SkyMiles/dollar on spending made directly with hotels -terms apply) will be able to do slightly better if they value SkyMiles at more than a penny each (I value MR Points at 1.5 cents each).

It’s important to note that even if you’ve only had this offer targeted to an Amex Business card that earns you as little as 1 point/dollar for spending made with Hyatt, using that card will still be a better deal than you’d get if you paid for your next $750 of Hyatt stays using card_name from Chase.

Sure, card_name offers an excellent 4 Hyatt Points/dollar on Hyatt spending, but that’s still only an effective rebate of 5.6% (based on my valuation of Hyatt’s currency) and that pales into insignificance when compared to the 10% + 1 point/dollar (at a minimum) that an Amex Business Card will offer.

Overall, while it would have been nice to see Amex let us enjoy one of its hotel offers at properties outside the US (of North America) for a change, this is a pretty good offer to have been targeted for. The 10% rebate may be capped at $75 but there’s no minimum spending requirement to earn the rebate so cardholders will be saving money on even their cheapest stays and that’s the kind of offer that we like to see.

Bottom line

Amex is now targeting select Business card holders with an offer to save up to $75 on spending made at Hyatt properties in the US and US territories through the end of the year. With another very nice Hyatt global promotion launching in just 6 days’ time, this offer means that targeted cardholders making stays before the middle of September will be able to get a 10% rebate, 3x Hyatt Points, and whatever earnings their Amex Business Card offers them on the first $750 they spend with Hyatt, and those all add up to a very worthwhile set of savings.
