If you hold an American Express co-branded card and have been feeling a little left out as you’ve watched holders of other Amex cards enjoying the great offers and spending bonuses that they have been targeted for in recent days, don’t worry, good things are on the way…apparently.
In the past couple of days we’ve seen American Express launch excellent targeted offers for holders of its consumer Platinum Card, great targeted spending bonuses for holders of its Business Platinum Card, and savings for targeted holders of its own business cards. Now the card issuer is promising to launch a new raft of offers for holders of its co-branded cards.
In the coming weeks, American Express and its Cobrand partners will be introducing new limited-time offers for existing Consumer and Business Delta SkyMiles®, Hilton Honors® and Marriott Bonvoy™ Card Members — with more details to come soon.
This new value builds on Card Member’s existing benefits as well as the suite of relevant and rich Amex Offers available through the Amex mobile app or online account.
That sounds like very good news.
It will be interesting to see (a) how long it takes these offers to start to appear and (b) if these offers will also be limited to cardholders whose accounts were open before 1 November 2020 (as has been the case so far with the other Amex promotions that we’ve seen this week).
I’m especially looking forward to finding out what Amex has in store for holders of its Hilton co-branded cards as there may be a nice points bonanza on the way. We know that Amex is currently sitting on hundreds of millions of Hilton Honors points that it purchased back in April last year and with that many Hilton Points on its books, there has to be a better than average chance that, at some point, Amex will start to look for ways to offload them. Big welcome bonuses on cards like the Hilton Honors Surpass Card may be one way to get rid of some points, but Amex may also consider using spending bonuses for existing cardholders as a way of reducing its Hilton points balance. I’m hoping that we see the latter in the offers that are on the way.
If you’re a holder of an Amex co-branded card, stay tuned as we should soon be seeing a variety of offers and/or spending bonuses being targeted to these cards in the coming weeks. As things stand there’s no real way of knowing what these offers will look like but if they’re anything like the offers that we’ve seen Amex launch on its other cards this week, they should be pretty good.
