Uber Directions In American Airlines App

The Uber pick up location functionality is located within the “Terminal Maps” part of the American Airlines map.

Firt, make sure you have the latest version of the American Airlines app – the update was released today.

Open up the American Airlines app and scroll down until you see “Terminal Maps”…which you should select:

As well as adding navigation to Uber pick-up points on the app, American Airlines has added Uber functionality to  e-ticket confirmations. After booking a flight on the American Airlines website, the airline will send an e-ticket confirmation via email, and the passenger can then click on a “Remind me to Uber” icon to set a reminder for their ride.

Promotion Codes & Bonus AAdvantage Miles

Passengers not currently signed up for Uber can enjoy up to $20 off their next ride when they register their account and use promo code RIDEAA.

In addition American Airlines is providing passengers with Executive Platinum status (as of 1 March 2016) a one-time code for $25 off their next Uber ride – this is regardless of whether or not they have used Uber before. Codes will be issued in March.

Between 7 February and 31 July 2016, passengers who use an AAdvantage Aviator™ MasterCard® as the method of payment for Uber purchases will earn two additional bonus miles for every $1 spent on their Uber rides.

Bottom Line

This is a good addition from American Airlines and the promotion codes and bonus miles are a nice touch.

It’s interesting to see that it’s the now defunct Aviator credit cards that are eligible to earn bonus miles and not the Citi AAdvantage cards. I wonder if this is to limit the number of people who can earn the miles (there will be fewer people with Aviator cards than with Citi AAdvantage cards) or if this is an indication that American Airlines isn’t 100% wedded to Citi? I think the contract between Citi and American Airlines is due to be renegotiated soon so this could be interesting to watch.
