American Airlines and JetBlue have today announced that they’re moving forward with their previously announced agreement by codesharing on 80 flights out of New York and Boston. More importantly for American Airlines loyalists, we’ve also been told that the new tie-up with JetBlue will see American launch 12 new domestic routes and 6 new international routes out of New York and Boston this year.

New American Airlines International Routes

American Airlines will be offering three new routes to Colombia, a new route to Chile, and two new routes to the Caribbean out of New York JFK starting from later this year.

Improved Schedules On The Way

American Airlines and JetBlue have said that they’re aligning schedules in key markets through their reciprocal codeshare arrangement.

From April 2021, the airlines say that they will offer more flights than any other carrier between New York and Los Angeles when they coordinate their schedules. I total, American and JetBlue, combined, will offer 14 daily flights between JFK/EWR and LAX.

In addition, American and JetBlue will also provide enhanced schedules between the following markets:

As the partnership matures, more route enhancements can be expected.

Codeshares Start From Next Week

American Airlines/JetBlue domestic codeshare flights are bookable from today for travel beginning February 25 (although, based on some of the prices I’m seeing, not all flare classes may have been loaded yet).

American Airlines flyers are being given access to 49 codeshare routes on JetBlue, while JetBlue flyers will have access to “more than 25 routes” on American Airlines (specific details of which routes these are haven’t been provided). The airlines say that they expect to begin codesharing on the new international routes “soon”.

The press release promises that more Northeast markets, including connections operated by a mix of both American and JetBlue through Boston and New York, will be added “regularly” throughout the first half of this year.

With American Airlines offering miles and elite qualifying credits on its JetBlue codeshares, AAdvantage elites now have a significant number of new routes on which to earn miles and status.

Bottom Line

American Airlines & JetBlue are moving ahead with their new partnership by launching reciprocal codeshares from today. Also, as a direct result of its partnership with JetBlue, American Airlines will launch six new international routes out of New York JFK and twelve new routes out of New York (JFK/LGA) and Boston.

  1. Wow, as a BOS resident with family in AVL, this is incredible news. Thanks for sharing! Do you have a sense of when, typically, these flights go on sale?

  2. Answered my own question from the AA official announcement: ” American’s new summer flights from New York and Boston will be available for purchase Feb. 22″

  3. I know it’s not the way it works in NYC but if AA would add some domestic JFK routes like that MCI-LGA route into JFK instead I think they might be able to pick up some business from UA and DL. Changing airports from LGA to JFK is not awesome.

  4. Airlines love announcing new routes with much fanfare. For some reason they tend to be more reticent to mention what routes they’re killing of to enable the new service. Are you aware of any resource that would show which routes are being cut?
