At the beginning of last month, Alaska Airlines announced four new seasonal routes out of California’s three biggest airports and now the airline has announced that it’s about to offer more services to the very heart of wine country from a variety of airports in Southern California.

Alaska’s New Wine Country Services

In June, Alaska Airlines will offer a new service between Burbank and Santa Rosa/Sonoma County and in September the airline will add further services to/from Santa Rosa/Sonoma from Orange County and San Diego.

With the additional flight to Burbank, Alaska Airlines will be able to offer non-stop service to six destinations from Sonoma County: Burbank, Los Angeles, Portland, Orange County, San Diego and Seattle. By fall, the airline will operate 13 peak day departures, including eight daily nonstop flights to Southern California airports.

Here’s what Alaska Airlines has planned:

Santa Rosa – Burbank

From 1 June 2021, Alaska Airlines will operate a daily service between Santa Rosa/Sonoma County and Burbank with the airline’s schedules currently showing the route operating year-round. At the time of writing, this is what the planned schedule for June looks like:

AS3304 STS 15:05 – 16:40 BUR (Daily)
AS3307 BUR 17:20 – 18:59 STS (Daily)

This route will be operated by Horizon Air’s Embraer 175 jet and what Alaska Airlines refers to as its “three-class cabin” (more info below).

Santa Rosa – Orange County

From 8 September 2021, Alaska Airlines will launch a second service between Santa Rosa/Sonoma County and Orange County giving the airline 14 weekly flights between the two destinations. As things stand, the airline’s schedules currently show the new second daily service only operating through 17 November and the existing service operating year-round so the following schedule is only going to be valid for a little over two months:

AS2409 STS 12:15 – 13:45 SNA (Daily)
AS2273 STS 17:45 – 19:15 SNA (Daily)*

AS3433 SNA 08:00 – 09:35 STS (Daily)
AS2272 SNA 15:30 – 17:05 STS (Daily)*

*New service

This route will be operated by Horizon Air’s Embraer 175 jet and what Alaska Airlines refers to as its “three-class cabin” (more info below).

Santa Rosa – San Diego

From 8 September 2021, Alaska Airlines will launch a second service between Santa Rosa/Sonoma County and San Diego giving the airline 14 weekly flights between the two destinations. As things stand, the airline’s schedules currently show the new second daily service only operating through 17 November and the existing service operating year-round so the following schedule is only going to be valid for a little over two months:

AS2550 STS 10:45 – 12:22 SAN (Daily)*
AS3422 STS 15:30 – 17:07 SAN (Daily)

AS2549 SAN 08:15 – 10:05 STS (Daily)*
AS2433 SAN 16:50 – 18:40 STS (Daily)

*New service

This route will be operated by Horizon Air’s Embraer 175 jet and what Alaska Airlines refers to as its “three-class cabin” (more info below).

Alaska Airlines “Wine Flies Free” Program

If you’re planning on making the most of these Alaska Airlines routes it’s worth keeping in mind that the airline has a special deal for Mileage Plan members who want to take some wine home after their trip.

Where a winery is unable to ship cases directly or travelers are faced with costly shipping fees to transport wine, Alaska’s Wine Flies Free program helps out by offering each Mileage Plan member the ability to check a case – up to 12 bottles of wine – for free.

The Aircraft

All of Alaska’s new services out of Santa Rosa/Sonoma County will be operated as Horizon Air using the Embraer 175 aircraft, a jet aircraft that Alaska Airlines boasts has only window and aisle seating – no middle seats.

The First Class cabin offers seats that are 21″ wide and that offer 37″ of pitch (legroom), the “Premium Class” seats offer a little over 18″ of width and 34″ of pitch, while the standard Economy Class seats offer an impressive 18″ of width but a cramped 30″ of pitch.

Alaska has confirmed that customers on all the new routes out of Boise will be able to enjoy hundreds of movies and TV shows available for viewing on personal devices, free texting (on most flights), and Wi-Fi connectivity (for a fee).

Bottom Line

At the beginning of June, Alaska Airlines will launch a new daily service between Santa Rosa/Sonoma County and Burbank Airport and from 8 September the airline will, for a limited time, add second daily flights to its routes from Santa Rosa to Orange County and San Diego. All the flights mentioned in this article are now bookable on the Alaska Airlines website.
