A look at some of the news stories that I noticed over the past few days that didn’t merit a blog post of their own but that may be of interest or of use nonetheless. Stories include United Airlines upgrading its Dreamliners with its new Polaris Business Class seats, Delta restarting a seasonal route to Europe, an airline offering more live (and free) streaming sport onboard and more.

United Airlines Will Upgrade Dreamliners With Polaris Business Class

United Airlines will, eventually, fit the Polaris Business Class seats it announced last week (full details of the announcement here)  into its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners according to comments made by a United Airlines spokesperson to Australian Business Traveler.

The plans for the Dreamliners as well as plans for the refit of the 767-400 aren’t final yet as the airline is prioritising the refit of its ageing (and in badly need of an upgrade) 777-200 and 767-300 aircraft which will see First Class removed in favor of the new and vastly improved Business Class product.

Norwegian Reduces Prices For Its Premium Cabin To $580/£399 One Way

Norwegian has reduced the cost of fares for its trans-Atlantic Premium cabin by up to 30% and, at this level of pricing, the cabin is starting to look interesting.

Norwegian’s Premium cabin offers passengers an “enhanced service and extra comfort at greater value“.  Passengers from Gatwick get access to the No.1 Lounge, fast-track security and priority boarding as well as a 2-bag (20kg each) baggage allowance.

On board passengers get complementary soft drinks upon boarding, premium meals and unlimited beverages and, more importantly, get a seat that wouldn’t look out of place in an early 1990’s Business Class cabin:

Pricing starts at $580/£399 one way during the winter season rising to at least $650/£449 one way during summer season – check here for more example prices.

Delta To Restart Atlanta – Brussels Service From March 2017

delta-airlines-767

Delta has announced that it will resume its Atlanta – Brussels service from 26 March 2017 which is set to complement the airline’s daily year-round service to Brussels from New York’s JFK airport.

The route will only be around for the summer schedule only but flights will be daily and will operate on the following schedule:

DL80 ATL 17:40 – 08:20+ 1 day BRU (Daily)
DL81 BRU 11:20 – 14:45 ATL (Daily)

Per Delta:

The route will be operated using a 225-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft. All flights from Brussels are equipped with Wi-Fi, allowing customers to stay connected at 30,000 feet, in addition to complimentary on-demand in-flight entertainment in all cabins. Movies and TV shows can also be downloaded to tablet and laptop devices.

Emirates To Offer More Live Sport On Board

The biggest of the 3 Middle Eastern carriers has announced that it will add a second sports channel to its onboard ice TV Live Onboard Entertainment system giving travelers the chance to watch “live matches and coverage of the much anticipated top sporting events this summer including UEFA Euro 2016, NBA, Formula 1, Wimbledon, US Open and Moto GP“.

Sports 24 and Sports 24 Extra are now available on over 90 of Emirates’ Boeing 777 aircraft and will also show live coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics…..and to think my last American Airlines 777-200 flight didn’t even have entertainment on demand or a screen that was actually watchable (presumably Doug Parker will blame this on Emirates subsidies!) 🙂
