Yesterday, 11 December 2018, Air France unveiled the refurbished dining area of its lounge at New York JFK and promised more upgrades to come in February 2019.

Situated in JFK Terminal 1 the Air France Lounge is open to La Première, Business Class, Flying Blue Platinum and Flying Blue Gold flyers. Select SkyTeam elite status holders also have access.

The Air France JFK lounge opened in 2014 and this is the first major refurbishment the lounge has undergone since then.

The refurbished dining area is located on the mezzanine floor of the lounge and has been equipped with new furniture “inspired by a Parisian brasserie” with blue/grey tones and “atmospheric lighting” giving the area a relaxed feel.

The dining area holds 34 two-person tables, a high six-seater table overlooking the airport apron and a round six-seater table too.

Air France offers two evening flights out of JFK (21:30 & 22:50) so the airline says that the new dining area has been designed to offer flyers the “Night Service”.

Here’s what Air France has to say about its Night Service:

This service anticipates Business customers’ need to enjoy a good night’s sleep on night flights between New York and Paris. They can thus enjoy at no extra charge the same gourmet French meal in the airport lounge as the one served on board, with their meal served at their table. Each customer can thus enjoy a full meal comprising a starter, hot dish, cheese, dessert and a wine and Champagnes list.

Air France has offered the “Night Service” at JFK for at least a couple of years so this isn’t exactly new…but its a very good idea.

The JFK – Paris flights are barely long enough to get a proper night’s rest so it’s helpful if the time spent on the aircraft can be taken up by sleep and not a dinner service…and this is there the Night Service in the lounge is key.

There’s nothing to stop flyers from eating in the lounge and on the flight…but the whole point of the lounge Night Service is to give flyers the best possible chance of arriving in Paris refreshed and not is a state of exhausted bewilderment.

Air France hasn’t given any details of what we can expect to see in the February reveal but, as the airline is calling the enhancements “new attentions dedicated to its customers’ wellbeing“, I suspect we may see spa treatments, a relaxation area and, if the airline is feeling bold, possibly even a wellbeing area like the one Qantas offers in its new Perth lounge (but that could be too much to hope for considering space constraint).

Bottom Line

If you’re flying in an Air France premium cabin out of New York JFK (or if you have status that grans you entry) you now have a new dining are to enjoy in the Air France lounge…and you have a promise of more things to come in February.
