Aer Lingus may not be part of the oneworld alliance but, just like British Airways and Iberia (its IAG stablemates), it uses Avios as its loyalty currency. These Avios can be used just like British Airways/Iberia Avios and can even be transferred over to the British Airways Executive Club or Iberia Plus.

That’s why a promotion just launched by Aer Lingus may be of more interest than you might think.

Aer Lingus is sending out emails to its Aer Club members in which its offering flyers double Avios for flights taken from London Gatwick to Dublin.

Here’s the brief wording from the email:

Use Dublin as your gateway to Ireland’s east coast this summer and collect Double Avios along the way for flights booked and flown from London Gatwick between 25 July and 31 August 2019.

Unwind in one of Dublin’s beautiful coastal villages, take a step back in time with a road trip to Newgrange or experience live Irish music, right in the heart of the city.

The terms and condition that come with the email simply state the following:

Double Avios to flights booked between 25 July and 31 August 2019 and flown between 25 July and 31 August 2019

The promotion is super-simple but there are still a few things to note:

  • There doesn’t appear to be any need to register.
  • This offer only applies to tickets booked from today – existing bookings don’t qualify.
  • The offer is for flights departing London Gatwick only – flights out of London Heathrow or Dublin will not earn double Avios.
  • There really isn’t a lot of time to make the most of this offer – the promotion only runs for 38 days.

Bottom Line

Clearly, this isn’t a huge promotion and I doubt anyone is going to earn a ton of Avios out of it, but these are still free Avios that are on offer.

If you were considering flying between London and Dublin before the end of August it may be worth your while booking a flight which departs from Gatwick rather than Heathrow and it may be worth forgoing Tier Points with BA in exchange for the extra Avios you can earn with Aer Lingus…but that will all depend on your own personal circumstances.
